PROBLEM STATEMENT
According to the Ground Water and Water Audit Department (GW&WAD) in Visakhapatnam, the
average groundwater level in the district in April 2023 was 8.10 meters below ground level (mbgl). In
comparison to March, April saw a 0.62 mbgl drop, indicating that water levels have decreased or dried
up. Groundwater fall has been detected at APTDC, Arilova, BVK College, Yoga Village, Pedda
Rushikonda, Yendada, Madhurawada, APSIDC, Sivajipalem etc. Sontyam, Vellanki,
Bheemunipatnam, Chippada, Chukkavanipalem, Pendurthi, Vizag Steel Plant, and Marikavalasa, on
the other hand, have had stable water levels with no variation. Visakhapatnam city is desperate for a
lasting solution to its water problems.
With all its major sources of water located outside the city, and with no perennial river to bank on, the
city finds itself in the throes of an acute water scarcity every summer.
REFERENCES
• Constructed wetlands can help to treat polluted water from different sources, such as agricultural
runoff, industrial wastevwater, stormwater, and domestic sewage.
• They can remove contaminants such as sediments, nutrients, pathogens, metals, and organic
compounds by using physical, chemical, and biological mechanisms.
• They can help to protect and restore sources of natural water resources, such as rivers, lakes, and
groundwater, by reducing the pollutant load and improving the water quality. They can also recharge
groundwater and regulate water flow.
• The treated water will be helpful to agriculture and can be sent to factories for production or cooling
and thus helpful in reducing water shortages and also helpful in reducing sewage treatment cost for
local urban bodies.
FEASIBILITY
As there will be lot of sewage in urban areas ,there will be need for treatment so we can use constructed wetlands
and the materials ( fine aggregate, gravel, soil ) which we fill layers are easy to find and it is economically
feasible compare to treatment plants.
CHALLENGES
The proper maintenance of constructed wetlands is crucial for effective wastewater treatment. By
utilizing these natural systems, we can enhance water quality, conserve resources, and promote
biodiversity. In this guide, we will explore the importance of maintenance and how it contributes to the
overall salutation of wastewater.
