OPENING PRAYER
PRAYER FOR THE POOR SOULS IN THE PURGATORY
BY ST. GERTRUDE THE GREAT

Eternal Father,

I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood

of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union
with the masses said throughout the
world today, for all the holy souls in
purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for
sinners in the universal church, those
in my own home and within my
family.

Amen.
OPENING PRAYER

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.

And kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
And you will renew the face of the earth.

Lord,
by the light of the Holy Spirit
you have taught the hearts of your faithful.
In the same Spirit
help us to relish what is right
and always rejoice in your consolation.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

SETTING

“A person’s Christian calling should not lie

hidden and barren; it should be outgoing,
apostolic, and self-sacrificing.”
GOSPEL: MATTHEW 25:14-30

TITLE
• Parable of the Talents

CHARACTERS
• Jesus, disciples, man (master), servants
GOSPEL: MATTHEW 25:14-30

verse 14 to 15
Ano yung binigay ng Master sa kanyang mga
servants?

“talents”
• gifts, aptitudes, flairs
• each man is given a portion to care for
• can be seen as God’s grace
• everyone has a different size cup, but all are
filled

[Jesus told his disciples this parable:] 14 “It will be as when a man who was going on a journey called in his servants
and entrusted his possessions to them. 15 To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third, one – to each
according to his ability. Then he went away.
GOSPEL: MATTHEW 25:14-30

verse 16 to 18
Anong ginawa nung servant who received one
talent?

“buried his master’s money”

• hid his light
• guarded his gifts but did not use them

…Immediately 16 the one who received five talents went and traded with them, and made another five. 17 Likewise, the
one who received two made another two. 18 But the man who received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and
buried his master’s money.
GOSPEL: MATTHEW 25:14-30

verse 19
Gaano katagal bago bumalik yung master?

“a long time”
• hints at the delay of the parousia
• settling of accounts at the last judgment

…After a long time the master of those servants came back and settled accounts with them.
GOSPEL: MATTHEW 25:14-30

verse 20-21
Anong sinabi nung servant with five talents
pagbalik nung master?

“I have made five more”

• He engaged in trustworthy risk-taking
• Maintained his faith and understanding
through whatever trials he had encountered

…20 The one who had received five talents came forward bringing the additional five. He said, ‘Master, you gave me
five talents. See, I have made five more.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant.
GOSPEL: MATTHEW 25:14-30

verse 21
Ano yung sinagot ng master sa servant with five
talents?

“I will give you great responsibilities”

• the reward of fidelity is a commission of
even greater responsibility

Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities.
GOSPEL: MATTHEW 25:14-30

verse 21
Ano raw yung i-sshare ng master sa servant with
five talents?

“Master’s joy”
• The kingdom of God

Come, share your master’s joy.’

GOSPEL: MATTHEW 25:14-30

verse 22-23
Ilan yung talents nung second servant na nag-
approach sa master?

“two”
• Notice that even though the initial charge
was less (two vs five), the reward is the same

…22 (Then) the one who had received two talents also came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two talents. See, I have
made two more.’ 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small
matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy.’
GOSPEL: MATTHEW 25:14-30

verse 24 to 25
Ano yung ginawa nung servant with one talent?

“buried the talent in the ground”

• the point of this whole parable is that the
owner is a demanding.
• This man has lost nothing, but he has gained
nothing either

…Then the one who had received the one talent came forward and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a demanding person,
harvesting where you did not plant and gathering where you did not scatter; 25 so out of fear I went off and buried your talent
in the ground. Here it is back.’
GOSPEL: MATTHEW 25:14-30

verse 26-27
Ano yung sinabi ng master sa kanya?

“put my money in the bank”

• seems to favor moderate capitalism

…26 His master said to him in reply, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant and gather
where I did not scatter? 27 Should you not then have put my money in the bank so that I could have got it back with interest on
my return?
GOSPEL: MATTHEW 25:14-30

verse 28-29
Ano yung sinabi ng master na gawin dun sa one
talent?

“give it to the one with ten”

• the powers conferred on Christians grow
with use and wither with disuse.

…28 Now then! Take the talent from him and give it to the one with ten. 29 For to everyone who has, more will be given and he
will grow rich; but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
GOSPEL: MATTHEW 25:14-30

verse 30
Ano yung naging punishment ng servant?

“throw this useless servant”

• the punishment for infidelity through
neglect is the same as the punishment for
lack of repentance.
• we are all given talents
• God expects us to use whatever ones we
have for the benefit of others

…And throw this useless servant into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.’
