 • The 2023 Polish parliamentary election, held on October
15, 2023, encompassed contests for seats in both the Sejm
and Senate, accompanied by a referendum featuring four
inquiries pertaining to government economic and
immigration policies.

• The incumbent right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) party, led

by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, maintained its Sejm
majority subsequent to the 2019 election. In contrast, the
M Y I M P O RTA N T opposition, including the Civic Platform and affiliated
groups, secured dominance in the Senate.
M AT T E R • Donald Tusk spearheaded the opposition's Civic Coalition
political alliance in the run-up to the 2023 elections. While
the United Right garnered a plurality of seats, it fell short of
achieving a Sejm majority. The collective vote share of the
opposition, comprising the Civic Coalition, Third Way, and
The Left, reached 54%, suggesting a high likelihood of
forming a coalition government. In the Senate, the
opposition's electoral coalition, Senate Pact 2023, clinched
both a plurality of votes and a majority of seats.
