types of people, places, feelings
etc. Most nouns are common and
they can be divided further into…
• Concrete nouns
things that exist physically, things
that we can see and feel:
computer, hand, house
• Abstract nouns
things that do not exist physically,
for example feelings, ideas and
qualities: friendship, sadness,
democracy
• Collective nouns
refer to groups of people, animals or
objects: team, community, flock
EXAMPLES OF CONCRETE NOUN
COUNTABLE VS UNCOUNTABLE
• Countable nouns refer to items that can be counted, even if the
number might be extraordinarily high (like counting all the people in
the world, for example). Countable nouns can be used with articles
such as a/an and the or quantifiers such as a few and many. Count
nouns are nouns that can be pluralized.
e.g. birds, trees.
• Non-count nouns have no plural form because they cannot be counted, e.g.
rugby, rice etc
