She received her degree in Metallurgy from Cambridge University in 1942 and went on to work at the Royal Aircraft Establishment from 1942-1946. In 1952, she moved to ICI Metals where she rose to become the first female managing director of an IMI company in 1978. Some of her accomplishments include authoring a book on titanium metallurgy and obtaining 8 patents relating to titanium alloys in the 1960s.
