What is Sambok ?? (YSM)
Following the traditional calendar, it marks the three hottest days of summer in
Korea.

In the past, 삼복 (Sambok) was a farming holiday and a rather important one as that.

They also called “ Sambok Festival ” as 복날 (boknal) and “dog days ”.


Sambok Foods (KCP)
Traditionally, the most common dishes eaten in Korea on Sambok days
were dog meat soup(Boshintang) and ginseng chicken soup (Samgyetang).

Nowadays dog meat soup is not very common.

Samgyetang is a chicken soup made with chicken,rice,ginseng,jujubes and


garlic.It is a healthy dish for recovering physical strength.
Haemultang (VIN)
A popular filling dish for summers is Haemultang.

It is a traditional Korean stew filled with an abundance of seafood.

The dish has low-fat content, making it perfect for filling up on energy!
Naeng kongguksu (VIN)
Naeng Konguksu, a very popular summer dish in Korea.

The cooked noodles are added to a bowl with ice cubes,


broth and then garnished with cucumber.

It is served cold and is often topped with slices of cucumber,


boiled egg, and tomato.
Sambok Desserts (EWH)
For those who couldn’t afford meat, alcohol rice cake ( 증편 ) , made with Makgeolli,
was also consumed during Sambok.

In Korea, people also eats Bingsu which is called Summer Desserts.Sambok Traditional
dessert is “ Mango Bingsu Dessert ” .
Yudu

What is Yudu Festival ??
(YWH)
Yudu is a traditional festival celebrated in the hopes of getting
rid of ghosts and bad spirits.
On Yudu, people would go to creeks that run to the East and bathe
and wash their hair in the past.
Yudu Foods ! (KSZZ)
During Yudu festival, people eat Yudumeyon,
Sudan, Sang Hwa Byung, and many other
dishes.

Everyone enjoys Yudumeyon this day, for its


superstition of prolonging life.
