Active transport

JH2
Lesson Objectives
At the end of the lesson, learners will be able to:
1. Describe active transport as the movement of particles
through a cell membrane from a region of lower
concentration to a region of higher concentration (i.e. against
a concentration gradient), using energy from respiration
2. Explain the importance of active transport as a process for
the movement of molecules or ions across membranes,
including ion uptake by root hairs
3. State that protein carriers move molecules or ions across a
membrane during active transport
Introduction

1.How is the food molecule absorbed into

the bloodstream?
2.Compare the number of molecules
before and after absorption.
3.Is it possible to absorb the nutrients
against the concentration gradient?

Think pair share
• Learners to do “test yourself” page 59 No. 6 and 7
• Learners will work with their shoulder partner for
numbers 6a and 6b
• Learners will take turns to answer question number 7.
LS1 7a, LS2 7b, LS3 7C, LS4 7D (5 minutes)
• Checking the answers (5 minutes)

Reflection
1. Check on lesson objective
• Describe what is active transport?
• Explain the importance of active transport in the cell membrane?
• What is the function of protein carriers in the cell membrane
during active transport?

2. Learners write 3 sentences on what they learned for this

meeting

3. Homework Continue worksheet 6 number 4 on your

notebook.
