ACCUPRESSURE

Roll no. 4
INTRODUCTION
Acupressure is branch of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) which also
includes acupuncture (Chinese Tui-na) is also an alternative medicine
technique often used in conjunction with acupuncture. It is basically the
process of stimulating acupressure points without using needles.
The goal of acupressure is to balance chi; the flow of life energy that
travels throughout the body. Chi normally flows along specific pathway
in the body called meridian which are like roads.
CONT…
• The chi travels along these roads to major organ systems such as liver,
lungs, heart. When chi flows freely along the meridian, there is health,
when it is blocked or stagnant, there is disease.
• In treatment, physical pressure is applied to acupuncture points or ashi
trigger points with the aim of cleaning blockage in these meridians.
• Pressure may be applied by hand, elbow or with various devices on the
skin called acupoints which are located along the body meridians to
alter the flow of chi.
CONT….
• The meridian begins at finger tips, connect to brain and then to an
organ.
• Acupressure involves rubbing and pressing the acupoints with finger,
which helps to restore free flow of chi, not only in those specific areas
but within the organ that is controlled by meridians.
• It is often claimed to be used for enhancing circulation, flexibility and
keeping the points ‘soft’ or less vulnerable to an attack although there
is no reliable evidence for the effectiveness of acupressure.
