Introduction
Cairo Opera House
The Cairo Opera House was inaugurated on October
10, 1988, by the President of Egypt at that time,
Hosni Mubarak.

the construction of the opera house was part of a


larger cultural project initiated by the Egyptian
government to revive the country's artistic and
cultural scene.

The main opera hall, named the Main Hall or the
Grand Theater, has a seating capacity of around
1,200 people and is equipped with state-of-the-art
facilities for opera, ballet, and theater productions.
However for this presentation I will only focus on
the Cairo symphony orchestra
Cairo Symphony Orchestra
The Orchestra was founded in 1959 under its first
music director and conductor, Franz Litschauer

It was established with the goal of promoting


classical music and enriching the cultural landscape
of the country.

Information about its exact foundation are not widely


available. However, it is known that a group of talented
musicians came together to form the orchestra, driven by
their passion for classical music and the desire to
showcase their skills.

Khedivial Opera House (Royal Opera House): The main venue
for opera, ballet, and symphonic performances in Cairo from
1869 until its destruction by fire in 1971.
(the oldest opera house in all of Africa.)

musicians.

Stravinsky).

A conductor is a highly skilled musician who leads and directs a
musical ensemble, such as a symphony orchestra, The conductor's
primary role is to interpret the music, guide the musicians, and
shape the overall performance.

Concertmaster
The concertmaster, also known as the leader or first violinist, is a
prominent position within an orchestra tuning the orchestra to
working closely with the conductor and plays all the violin solos.

One of which is Charles Munch

Charles Munch was a renowned French conductor.


He was born in 1891 and passed away in 1968.

Munch's interpretations were characterized by energy,


expressiveness, and attention to detail.

Charles Munch's legacy as a conductor continues to be celebrated


for his artistry and musical contributions.

was also the first Concert in Egypt to play Gustav Mahler’s
pieces in Egypt

Baligh Hamdi
Baligh Hamdi
Baligh Hamdi was an Egyptian composer
who drew upon Egyptian folk melodies and
contemporary music aesthetics to create his
compositions. He utilized a mix of classical
and electronic instruments in his work, and
collaborated with singers such as Umm
Kulthum, Abdel Halim Hafez, and Warda.
Hamdi also contributed to the soundtracks of
several feature films, including the award-
winning "A Taste of Fear" (1969).
