WHAT IS CISC?
A CISC (Complex Instruction Set Computer) is a type of computer architecture characterized by its
use of complex instructions that can perform multiple low-level operations in a single instruction.

Characteristics:
o Complex instruction
o Varied instruction length
o Multiple addressing modes
o Less register

3
ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES
Advantages:
o Smaller code size
o Ease of programming
o Backward compatibility

Disadvantages:
o Slower execution speed
o Reduced pipelining efficiency
o Increased hardware complexity

4
Examples of CISC

Intel x86/x64 DEC PDP-11 Motorola 68000
