2ND YEAR (CE)
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I express my satisfaction on the completion of this summer training program and project
report submission as a part of curriculum for the degree of bachelor of technology Civil
Engineering. I express my deepest gratitude to my supervisor and mentor JE .Minaxi pant for
her kind guidance during the entire period of training. Her consistence support and advice
helped me to complete this research project successfully ,Also I thank all the member of
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT BAGESHWAR their kind support , they have always been
a source of impression to me.
your sincerely

COMPANY OVERVIEW
• The infrastructure is an important aspect in the Government sector and in the public
sector. Therefore, the construction of roads, bridges, and all the related civil projects must
be organized and systematic. Hence the Public Works Department (PWD) is the
organization to handle these government projects. These projects are crucial as they help
in the development of the country. For example, a well-constructed road will promote an
efficient transportation system that will contribute to the economy of the country. It
makes transportation and other operations easier through construction projects. It reduces
unemployment by providing opportunities to people having different skills. Therefore, the
Public Works Department holds great importance in the progress of the country.
DURATION AND LOCATION OF THE INTERNSHIP

• MY Summer internship at PWD spanned over four

weeks and was located in Bageshawar near Narendra
place .This training allowed me to immerse myself in
daily operation on the company gain a deeper
understanding of functioning.
OBJECTIVE OF THE INTERNSHIP

• Industry experience is often an important part of applying for full-time positions. Employers
often prefer applicants who have some experience working in positions that may be similar
to the one they're offering. If you're new to a particular industry or are still in school, an
internship may promote professional growth and help you determine whether the career
path you're pursuing is the right fit for you.
In this article, we define an internship, explore what the purpose of an internship is, list some
of its benefits and provide answers to commonly asked questions regarding internships.
WHAT IS ROAD AND PAVEMENT ?
. Road is an open, generally public way for the passage of vehicles, people and animals .
. Pavement is finished with a hard smooth surface. It helped make them durable and able to
withstand traffic and the environment. They have a life span of between 20-30 years.

.Functions
. One of the primary function of pavement is load distribution.it can be characterized by the
tire loads, tire configurations, repetition of loads ,and distribution of traffic across the
pav.ement and vehicle speed
TYPES OF PAVEMENT
• There are various types of pavements depending upon the materials
Used a brief description of all types is given here-

FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT-
.Bitumen has been widely used the construction of pavements for a long time .this is the most
convenient and simple types of construction. The cost of construction of single lane bituminous
pavement varies from 20 to30 lakhs per km in plain area.
.Have low flexural strength
.Load is transferred by grain to grain contact.
.Have low completion cost but repairing cost is high
.Have low life span (high maintenance cost)
MINERALS USED-
• Cement
• Ordinary Portland cement-
• .ordinary Portland cement and high strength ordinary Portland cement are most widely used for
concrete pavements.

• Rapid hardening Portland cement-

• In general, this cement would be used only where time is critical factor and the road is required to
be opened to traffic at an earlier date than would be possible if ordinary Portland cement or high
strength ordinary Portland cement is used.
MINERAL USED (CONT.)
• AGGREGATES-
• There are two types of aggregates are used during construction of road i.e fine and coarse aggregates
depending on requirement.
• MAXIMUM size of aggregates should not execeed ¼ of the pavement slab thickness.

• WATER-
• Water used in mixing or curing of concrete shall be clean and free from injurious amounts of oil, salt,
acid ,vegetable, matter or other harmful to the finished concrete.
• Potable waters are generally considered satisfactory for mixing or curing.
EQUIPMENTS USED
• A list of tools ,equipment and appliance required phases of concrete road construction is given
below –
• 1. three wheeled or vibratory roller for compaction purpose
• 2. shovels spades and sleving screens.
• 3. concrete mixer for mixing of concrete.
• 4. watering device- water lorries, water carriers or watering cans.
• 5. wooden hand tampers for concrete compaction.
• 6 . Cycle pump/pneumatic air blower for cleaning of joint.
• 7. mild steel section and blocks for making joints grooves for finishing purpose.
SITE PREPARATION
• First the site graded to cut high points and fill low areas to the desired roadway profile elevations.
• Generally ,cut material is placed on the sub grade to provide drainage and stability.
• A course of material is placed on the sub grade to provide drainage and stability.
• A Course of fairly rigid material , sometimes cement or asphalt treated, that is placed on the sub
base to provide a stable platform for the concrete pavements slab.
WALLS
• WALL – A VAETICAL LOAD- BEARING MEMBER.
• WALL FULFILLS THE FUNCTION OF PRIVACY, SECURITY AND PROTECTION AGAINST
NATURAL FACTORS.
• TYPES OF WALLS-
• 1-Load bearing walls 2-non load bearing walls
• LOAD BEARING WALL- They are meant to carry super imposed loads in additions to their own weight.
• Load bearing walls always run perpendicular to the ceiling joists of your home.
• NON LOAD BEARING WALLS-
• They carry their own load only. The mains purpose of these wall is to divide wall or servers as partitions
walls.
LOAD AND NON LOAD BEARING WALLS-
CHARACTERISTICS-
1. Use They are primarily protective screens separating the house as a whole from its surroundings
and partitioning the interiors into usable areas. ...
2. Economy Good walls should have economical to erect, long lasting, require minimum
maintenance, keep heating and cooling bills low, and takes little space. ...
3. Aesthetics ...
4. Environmental Control ...
BOUNDARY WALL
• The most common compound wall design is a
masonry compound wall, typically built using bricks
and cement mortar. With a height of at least five ft
and thickness of six inches, masonry compound
walls are built atop a base of two ft. Once the basic
structure is built, masonry compound walls are
plastered with cement. Finally, paint is used to give it
the desired look.

Compound wall designs that lay equal importance on
looks and security are known as an ornamental
compound wall design. A combination of masonry
compound walls and designer grills, ornamental
compound walls could be designed according to the
liking and requirements of the owner.
CONCLUSION-
• Summarize the usefulness of your summer training in advancing your understanding of the
engineering profession, both technically and organizationally. Summarize what you learned from the
experience. Discuss the benefits acquired from the training experience and the ways in which it
enriched your knowledge.
REFRENCE-

• I would like to acknowledge the sources and refrence that were instrumental in my
research and learning during the internship.
• These included-
