Possessives: Adjectives

We use possessive adjectives to show something belongs to somebody, for

example: “Whose is that turtle?” “It’s my turtle”.

We also use them for relations and friends, for example: “Her dad is a doctor”.

We can use them with parts of the body, for example: “Sergio has broken his
toe”.

Possessives: Pronouns
Possessive pronouns do not use
apostrophes (’).

We can also use possessive
pronouns and nouns with “of”. For We Our Ours
example: “Laila is a friend of They Their Theirs
ours”.
Possessives: Nouns
With singular nouns, we add ’s to show possession.
For example: That’s John’s bike. He was riding his friend’s scooter.

With plural nouns, we add ’ to show possession.

For example: This is my parents’ fish. These are the ladies’ bags.

With irregular plural nouns, we use ’s.

Some examples of these nouns are children,
people, men, women…
For example: These are women’s socks.

We can use possessives to

avoid repeating words.
For example: “Is that Cody’s boat?”
“No, it’s Jaime’s.”
“Whose bag is this?” “It’s Ana’s”.
