ANALYSIS OF THEORETICAL REPLACEMENT OF R134a

REFRIGERANT WITH R450a REFRIGERANT

1.Introduction to R450a and R134a Refrigerants

-R134a is HFC refrigerant. It is a safe, non-flammable refrigerant, widely used in

household refrigerators. This refrigerant does not deplete the ozone layer, but it has a
relatively high GWP (=1300)

-R450a refrigerant is a blend of R134a and R1234ze, and it has thermodynamic

properties similar to R134a. As it is a blend containing R1234ze, it has a low GWP (=547).
2.COMPARISON OF THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES

= R450a

Table 1 compares the properties of the two refrigerants.

3.Assumption

Consider a refrigeration system with the following : compressor, evaporator,

condenser, expansion valve, as shown in Figure.

g= V . n . p1’ . ηv /60 (kg/s)

h2 = h1 + (h2s – h1 )/ηc (kj/kg)
W = g . ( h2 –h1' ) (w)
Qo = g . ( h1 – h3 ) (w)
