Vitamin B3 The Burning
Flush
Niacin (nicotinic acid) is also known as vitamin B. Both
nicotinic acid (NA) and nicotinamide (NAM) can serve as
the dietary source of the co-factor forms of vitamin B3,
nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and
nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP).
Niacin is found in liver, meat, peanuts
and other nuts and whole grains.
The major action of nicotinic acid in this
capacity is a reduction in fatty acid
mobilization from adipose tissue. Although
nicotinic acid therapy lowers blood
cholesterol it also causes a depletion of
glycogen stores and fat reserves in skeletal
and cardiac muscle.
Positive
Effects
• Reduce blood pressure
• Ease arthritis
• Boost brain function
Vitamin B3 is extremely important for the healthy
functioning of the gastrointestinal system by improving
digestion, proper absorption of the food juices into the body
and excretion of the waste products from the intestines
Negative Effects

High doses (50 mg or more) of niacin can cause side effects. The most
common side effect is called "niacin flush," which is a burning, tingling
sensation in the face and chest, and red or flushed skin. Taking an
aspirin 30 minutes prior to the niacin may help reduce this symptom.
Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid):
The Center of Energy:
It is needed for the synthesis of cholesterol and
the synthesis of steroid hormones such as
melatonin. Coenzyme A is also needed for the
synthesis of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter.

Pantothenic Acid
Coenzyme A
Vitamin B5, also called pantothenic acid, is one of 8 B
vitamins. All B vitamins help the body convert food
(carbohydrates) into fuel (glucose), which the body uses
to produce energy. These B vitamins, often referred to as
B complex vitamins, also help the body use fats and
protein. B complex vitamins are needed for healthy skin,
hair, eyes, and liver. They also help the nervous system
function properly.
Enzymes: nature’s catalysts

Pantothenic acid is vitamin B5. It

is widely found in both plants and
animals including meat, vegetables,
cereal grains, legumes, eggs, and milk.
Pantothenic acid helps the body utilize
carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids. It is
also important for maintaining healthy
skin.
