Text Book
• Textbooks are derived from the syllabus.
• TBs should be prepared to meet the needs of all students including those
with special needs and the talented.
• Should meet standard procedures related to such elements as illustration,
size, paper quality, organization of contents, alignment of contents with
syllabuses, space for activity, etc.
• TBs have a very important part to play in the process of improving the
quality of student learning.
• Next to the teacher, it is TBs that play a key role in improving the quality of
student learning and achievement of the intended competencies
New concepts added to the grade 9 and 10 textbook
1.Subfeilds of biology added(grade 10)
2.Biochemical molecules added( grade 10)
3. Number of units in grade 10 became 6
4.Introduction to biology added(grade 9)
5. Reproduction added (grade 9)
6.The contents are based on indigenous knowledge
7.Learning outcomes , competencies ,Learning strategies , activities, assement tools
are clearly indicated
8. The contents are based on indigenous knowledge (9 and 10)
Indigenous Knowledge refers to understanding, skills and philosophies developed by
local communities with long histories and experiences of interaction with their natural
surroundings.
For example: traditional medicine from elder about medicine, small handy craft, the
number from Bahre Hassab, Awude Negest ( calander, Astronomy)

Teacher’s Guide
A teacher guide is a material developed for the purpose of supporting and
enhancing the effort teachers exert to facilitate learning. It encourages
teachers to employ innovative ways of teaching lessons.
The new biology teacher guide includes:
1. Contents with period allotment
2. Learning outcomes, learning strategies, classroom and field-based
activities, feedback on student activities and answers to questions and
exercises, assessment tools and techniques
• Syllabus is a plan for a course of study or a subject to be taught and learnt. The most
important elements of a syllabus are competencies, contents, teaching-learning
strategies, materials, and assessment tools and techniques.
Thus, syllabus is developed by including the following elements:-
• Learning Out comes
• Competencies
• Contents: sub-contents, scope-breadth and depth of contents
• Activities: Methods and approaches
• Materials of Teaching and Learning:

• Assessment tools and Techniques
