TEST METHOD TRAINING PROJECT

Overview

The purpose of this test method is to determine the relative “softness” of natural
leather and composition leather. The test will provide a value of softness for
leathers based on an instrumented indenter.

Sample Size

The minimum sample size for the leather softness test is 3. For natural leather,
one sample should be taken per hide for 3 hides.

Specimen

For natural leather, samples to be used in the test are whole hides. If whole hides
are not available, use multiple sides. Measurements are taken in the ISO 2418
sampling location prior to cutting samples. For composition leather, sample
random locations from a given roll.
