DIABETES IN

MALAYSIA
Presented by Hawa and Maizatul
SHORT STORY

“Long time ago, when I was 10 years old, I went to the hospital with my
mother to make a usual medical check up for every 6 months. While I was
waiting for my name to call, I saw one boy with a big blue shirt and black
jean waking out from the doctor room with a glooming face. He looks so
down in the dump. From what I heard; he was diagnosed with diabetes at a
very young age. That absolutely scary me at that time. So,
from that day, I promised myself to keep healthy as well as active everyday.”
BACKGROUND OF TOPIC

Definition of diabetes: Diabetes is a chronic (long-lasting) healthy condition

that affects how your body turns food into energy.

• How it happened:
• Cells in muscle, fat and the liver become resistant to insulin. As a result,
the cells don’t take in enough sugar.
• The pancreas can’t make enough insulin to keep blood sugar levels
within a healthy range.

Early signs of diabetes are increased thirst, slow-healing cut or sore, fatigue,
lose weight without trying, blurred version etc.

B. ANALYSIS OF DATA

Most important things to do in my point of view:

• Drink a lot of water
• Eat a healthy diet
Yet it is clear that the burden of behavior change cannot fall entirely on
individuals. So, it is up to you either to stay fit as a fiddle or stay as green
around the gills.
A. DESCRIPTION OF DATA

• Taken from the national health and morbidity survey (NHMS) 2019 by
the Ministry of Health (MOH)
• The factors are:
• Overweight
• Family history
• Diet
B. ANALYSIS OF DATA

• Malaysian living with diabetes because of unhealthy lifestyle. The reason

include:
1. Overweight
2. Diet
3. Family history
• Overweight is the least factor
• Family history come in second
CONCLUSION

Educational institutions should take action for students to broden their

knowledge as well as to spread the awareness about diabetes.

Governments need to ensure that all citizens are taking diabetes issues
seriously by organizing a lot of programs to Malaysians.

Parents must have the overall responsibility to their chindren’s health and
wellbeing.
