Energy transformations

What is energy?

The simplest definition of energy is "the ability to do work". Energy is

how things change and move. It's everywhere around us and takes all
sorts of forms. It takes energy to cook food, to drive to school, and to
jump in the air.
How is thermal energy transferred?
Thermal energy transfers occur in three ways: conduction, convection, and
radiation. Conduction is when thermal energy is transferred between molecules in
contact with one another.
What is electrical energy?
Electrical energy is a type of kinetic energy caused by moving electric
charges. The amount of energy depends on the speed of the charges – the faster
they move, the more electrical energy they carry.
How is electrical energy transferred?
Energy can be moved from place to place by moving objects or through
sound, light, or electric currents. Energy can also be transferred from site
to site by electric currents; the currents may have been produced, to begin
with by transforming the energy of motion into electrical energy.
How is electrical energy produced?
Most electricity is generated with steam turbines using fossil fuels, nuclear,
biomass, geothermal, and solar thermal energy. Other major electricity
generation technologies include gas turbines, hydro turbines, wind turbines,
and solar photovoltaics.
