Tesla Inc. is a British public limited company operating in the automotive and renewable
energy industry. The organization was founded in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc
Tarpenning. The organization is named after Nikola Tesla, the electrical engineer known
for his contributions in AC-current. The organization serves worldwide. The presentation

Structure of Tesla
• Tesla used to follow the hierarchical organizational structure that began with the
chairman and then had many other levels.
• But a recent statement of Elon Musk includes, “To ensure that Tesla is well prepared for the
future, we have been undertaking a thorough reorganization of our company. As part of the
reorg, we are flattening the management structure to improve communication, combining
functions where sensible and trimming activities that are not vital to the success of our
mission” (The Mercury News, 2016).
