Common Confusion & Highest Disagreement Examples
Please READ

Hello Everyone!

For WE 09.22.23 clarification document, we will be discussing highest disagreement examples as well as questions
asked by our contributors. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask in chats or via ticket. Thank you.

General Reminders of the Moselle Project guideline & clarifications(s)

• The objective of the project is to assign the most specific category to a query.
• We can only use the Parent categories OR Final categories.
• Queries that result with separate top-level categories has no category; therefore, answer ‘No’ to Q2.
• A person’s full name is considered as PII (Personal Identifiable Information) and should be labeled ‘Tool Error.’
• Service queries are not considered product queries; therefore, we answer ‘No’ to Q2.
• Brand name-only queries are not considered to be product queries; therefore, we answer ‘No’ to Q2.
• Brand name and product queries would be filed under the Parent or top-level category label.
• Live animals are not product queries and would not be labeled so we answer ‘No’ to Q2.

Example I: Duplicated Categories

Query: size 10 flower girl Most of the labels generally filed this under Clothing & Accessories//Kids//Girls//Girls'
Clothing//Dresses. However, there is no detail referring to ‘dresses’ in the query. Size 10
can refer to other items, such as shoes, shirt, cardigan, in addition to dresses. Since there
are other possible products in the query, we must select the parent or top-level category
labels. Please have a look at the Moselle Clarification Common Confusions 3.31.23 –
Incorrect category error and the Moselle interactive quiz WE9.9 regarding duplicated
categories found in the project page.

Correct label

Examples II: PII (Personal Identifiable Information)

Query: Jodie Piccoult The query Jodie Piccoult refers to a person’s full name. Per guideline, “If the job includes PII including a
person’s full name, address, bank account information, credit card information, etc. then it should be “Tool
Error”.

Despite side search may yield information about the person being a writer or actor or etc, in short, this still is a
person’s full name and per guideline, a person’s full name would be filed under ‘Tool Error.’

Correct label

Example III: Service Query

Query: Ninja costumes for rent The query is for ‘ninja costumes for rent.’ While there is product mentioned in the query
(ninja costumes), the main intent of the query is Service because the query mentioned ‘for
rent’ or in short, costume rental. Per clarification, all services query is considered to not
have a product intent; therefore, we would answer “No” to Q2: Is there a category
associated with this query?

Correct label

5
Example IV: Separate top-level categories

The query is for a ‘glass table next’, and a side search confirms that this is a furniture product.
Query: glass table next Since the query does not have any detail/specific to determine whether the table is antique or
office table or dining room table, outdoor table and so on. When searching on tools, table can fit
under different top-level categories of “Homes,” “Garden & Outdoor” as well as “Antiques &
Collectibles” labels. Therefore, we answer “No” to Q2 “Is there a category associated with this
query” since we can’t determine one singular one. For more information regarding Separate top-
level categories, please have a look at the Moselle Clarification 3.24.22 found in the project page.

Correct label

6
Example V: Wrong Language

Query: penjimat elektrik rumah Per side search, the query ‘penjimat elektrik rumah’ confirms that this is not a personal
name or a product, but rather a foreign language query. As per the guidelines, queries that
are foreign which cannot be inferred and understood should be labeled “Wrong language.”

Correct label:

Example VI: Incorrect Category

Query: schwinn quad steer The query is for a ‘schwinn quad steer wagon’, and a side search confirms that this a toy wagon, not a vehicle.
wagon A tool search for “toys wagons” WAGONS pulls an exact and final category match for the query. Here are some
general reminders: “A side or Amazon search helps in determining what the actual product is and provides a
better insight of what could be the best suitable final category match for the query”.

Use key word ‘toys wagons ’
