Taiping Lake Gardens

Taiping Lake Gardens used to be a mine before it was made in to a public garden. It
was developed by Charles Compton Reade. The idea of the garden was the
brainchild of Colonel Robert Sandilands Frowd walker. The abandoned mining
ground was donated by Choong Keng Quee.

Names of Lakes and Ponds


The names for the lakes and ponds are Alamanda Pond, Island Pond, Jungle
Lake, Oblong Pond, Pavilion Pond, South Lake, Swan Lake and West Lake with
a total of 10 ponds.

Attractions
The main attractions are Maxwell Hill (Bukit Larut) that has an altitude of 1000
meters. The Tulip Garden which is the first ever established tulip farm in
Malaysia and Zoo Taiping which is the first ever established zoo in Malaysia.
Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan

The Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan is a clock tower in Teluk Intan. It is the
Malaysian “version” of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Its height is 25m(82ft). It is 3
storeys tall.

History
It was build by a contractor called Leong Choon Chong but was later claimed by
Briton, Neol Danison. The tower was build to store water in dry seasons, in case
of fires as well as to keep time. But later during the Japanese occupation it was
used as a watch tower. Then when Malaysia gained independence in 1957 it
officially became a natural monument.

Reason for leaning


The reason for its leaning is because of the soft ground of where It was build on
as well as the weight of the water tank making it lean to the southwest.
