The identified defect is dampness which is

excess penetration of moisture inside building
through its floors, wall, and roofs. The moisture
entering through the cracks of wall. Roofs and
floors give rise to an unhygienic condition such
as deterioration of the structure and it
component as well.

The type of building identified is office building

constructed in 2017, has six (6) years located at
Magomeni along Kawawa road, owned by local
government Authority and have about 48
occupants

CAUSES OF WALL DAMPNESS

•Through foundation walls.
•Through Cracks.
•Rainwater Traveling from Wall Tops.
•Rain Beating Against the External Wall.
•Condensation.
•Poor drainage at the building.
•Improper slope of roof.

CONCLUSION
To address and prevent wall dampness, a holistic approach
is imperative. This involves meticulous site analysis during
the design phase, considering factors such as prevailing
weather patterns, exposure to sunlight, and the influence
of surrounding structures or vegetation. Proper orientation
planning, coupled with the strategic use of moisture-
resistant materials and effective drainage systems, can
significantly mitigate the risks associated with damp walls.

RECOMMENDATION
In the ongoing pursuit of sustainable and resilient
construction practices, it is crucial for architects,
builders, and homeowners alike to prioritize not only
the aesthetic and functional aspects of structures but
also their ability to withstand environmental
challenges.
