RELATION
A relation is a rule that pairs each element in one setr called the domain , with one or
more elements from a second set called the range.
A function is a rule that pairs each element in one set, called domain, with exactly one
element from a second set called the range.
For each x-coordinate ( abscissa) , there is exactly one y-coordinate (ordinate) .
There is a one-to-one correspondence or many-to-one correspondence between x and y
elements, while one-to many correspondence is not a function, but a mere relation.
Representations of Functions:
Graph of a Linear Function
Graph of a Quadratic Function
Graph of a Polynomial Function (Cubic)
5. Standard Form (Equation)
Linear Function : f(x) = ax + b where a 0
y= 4x + 6
Quadratic Function: f(x) = a wherte a 0
y= 2- 4x- 7
Polynomial Function : P(x) = a + b cx +d where a 0.
y= 3 + 4 - x + 5
1. x 1 2 3 4
y 5 6 7 8
3. = x – 16
6. y = -1
7. -2x + 5 = y
