 In your notebook answer this question

What traits* do you have that you share with

your mom, dad, or sister/brother?

*the term “traits” defined on next slide

What is the purpose of Reproduction?
The process of reproduction ensures that a plant or animal
species does not disappear from Earth.
This process is very important in maintaining stability in the
ecosystem and for the continuation of life on earth.

type of reproduction?
Gizmo Time!
We will use a Gizmo to see a model of sexual and asexual
reproduction-what is the difference?
Focus on two aspects of these types of reproduction:
 How many parents?
 What do the offspring look like?
Asexual Reproduction
What do we know about asexual reproduction from the
gizmo?
How many parents?
What do the offspring look like?
Asexual Reproduction
It involves a single
parent.
It results in
offspring that are
genetically
identical to each
other and to the
parent.
Sexual Reproduction
What do we know about sexual reproduction from the
Gizmo?
How many parents?
What do the offspring look like?
The process in which new
organisms are created, by Sexual
combining the genetic
information from two
individuals of different
sexes.
Offspring is different than
the parents
2 parents are needed
Half genes from “mom” and
half from “dad”
