Tagline: "Yamang Mindanao: Ethnic Pride of
Mindanao"

Mindanao is the 3rd major island in the Philippines. It is rich in both arts
and cultures. The tagline highlights how unique the arts and culture of
Mindanao is, particularly in the chosen ethnic group in Mindanao, which
is T'boli, Yakan and Maranao.

The T'boli is one of the indigenous Filipino ethnic groups located in South Cotabato (De
Jong, 2008). Its culture is deeply rooted in and inspired by nature; as a result, their dances
often mimic the movements of birds and monkeys. The most well-known T'boli craft and
one of the tribe's traditional textiles is the T'nalak, or sacred cloth that is made from
abaca. This cloth is exchanged during marriages and used as a cover during births.

One of the largest indigenous Filipino ethnolinguistic groups in the Sulu Archipelago is
the Yakan people (Google Arts and Culture, n.d.). Their are known for their famous
artwork "Batik-batik". The natural environment that surrounds the Lamitan, Basilan,
served as inspiration for the Yakan tribe's designs. These fabrics, which are primarily
made from pineapple and abaca fibers, can be identified by their geometric designs and
daring color choices (Cosep, 2020).

The Maranao, which is considered as one of the biggest Islamic ethnic groups in the
Philippines, are renowned for their intricate weaving and metal and woodworking (Cal
State East Bay, n.d.). The name Maranao, which refers to their traditional homeland in the
region around Lake Lanao on the Bukidnon-Lanao Plateau, which is located at an altitude
of about 2,200 feet above sea level, means "People of the Lake." They are known for their
artwork "Sarimanok" and "Okir".

Importance of our design in the society

The elements, geometric figures and the color patterns present

in the t-shirt design will help the people to appreciate more the
beauty and how wonderful the arts and culture of Mindanao is.
Through our t-shirt design, it helps to promote Mindanao
traditional arts as well as its protection and preservation. And
lastly, it helps us to develop our patriotism since it promotes as
well the arts and culture of what we have on our own country.
