Williams Pipeline Explosion

Appomattox, Virginia

September 14, 2008

September 16, 2008 - Cleanup is finally underway, two days
after a gas pipeline explosion in Appomattox County,
Virginia.
The blast destroyed two homes and damaged dozens of
others along Route 26 Sunday. Everyone was allowed back in
the neighborhood Tuesday. Police removed a barricade
around the area.
Meanwhile, some victims of the explosion are deciding
whether to return home at all. Some say going home will be
difficult since gas is still being pumped through the area.
Five people were injured, and two homes were destroyed
when a pipe near Route 26 failed Sunday morning. The
ruptured pipe is one of three natural gas lines that run
through Appomattox.
They're all owned by Williams Gas.
