Placement
PPVR Category
• Consists of two types for low voltage
distribution board.
PPVR Category • Feeder Pillar (BS type/DIN type).
• LV Board.
• Used outside the building.
Feeder Pillar • Based on its specially designed physical
form with full cover for safety reasons.
• Feeder Pillar (BS type)
• Feeder Pillar (DIN type)
• Mini Feeder Pillar
LV Board
• Installed in the building of the 11kV electrical
substation.
• Designed for the use in substations.
• Even though there are differences in the physical
design and placement location, LV boards are mostly
similar in terms of electrical and size of the
components.

Components and
functions
Function : Connection between the low
voltage source of transformer and PPVR
busbar.

Purpose : Isolate the supply from the

Link busbar

It can only be opened or entered when

both connections have been proven dead
and isolated from both sources of supply.
• Link (BS type)
• Link (DIN type)
• Function : Connection in between the busbar
and low voltage and low voltage cable
SAVR.
• Purpose : Limit the flow of load current and
Outgoing Fuse protection for the outgoing circuit(s).
• Fuse size (LV, DIN, NH2) : 125A, 160A,
200A & 250A
• Fuse size (LV, DIN, NH 00): 50A, 80A,
100A
• Outgoing Fuse (BS type)
• Outgoing Fuse (DIN type)
Current
Transformer
• Function : To lower the current in the busbar.
• Purpose : Give current signal to the Thermal
Demand Indicator (TDI).
Thermal Demand • Function : Display the load current for each
phases.

Indicator (TDI • Purpose : Consists of two arrow indicators.

Red arrow shows the steady state value
(maximum). Black arrow shows the

• TDI meter (BS type)
• TDI meter (DIN type)
Instrument Supply 6
Amp
• Function : Provides facilities for measuring equipment.
• Purpose : 6A of current supply to the measuring
equipment.
Cut-out & Neutral
Link 60 Amp
• Function : Provides single-phase supply.
• Purpose : For the internal usage in electrical
substation. Light point and outlet socket.
Phase Barrier
• Function : As the name plate of the outgoing circuit
and separator between phases.
• Purpose : Designation of the outgoing circuit and
prevention of short circuit (negligence)
Size of LV Distribution Board
• Various sizes used in TNBD system such as
400A (Mini Feeder Pillar), 800A, 1000A,
1600A and 2000A.
• The classification of the various PPVR

Size of PPVR sizes is based on the current carrying

capacity of the busbar for each phases.
• For example, if the current carrying
capacity of the busbar for each phases is
800A, then the size of PPVR will be sized
at 800A.
Size Ingoing (Link x Outgoing (Way
(Amp) Amp) x Amp)
2000 2 x 800 @ 3x 10 x 400
Rating of PPVR 800
1600 2 x 800 8 x 400
1000 1 x 800 5 x 400
800 1 x 800 4 x 400

PPVR Tests
• There are various tests that have to be done
on the PPVR before the installation or
operation of it.

PPVR Tests • To ensure that it is safe to use in terms of

danger and technical durability.
• PPVR tests can be divided into two parts,
which are before installation and after
installation.
• Insulation Resistance Test (IR Test).
• For phase to phase and phase to neutral.
Before Installation • The resistance of insulation has to be over
1MΩ.
• Voltage Test.

After Installation
• Phase Sequence Test.
• Feedback Test.
• Voltage Test : To ensure that the output voltage from the PPVR is
within the Voltage Standard set by TNB safety rule.
• Phase Sequence Test : To determine the phase sequence is in the right
turn and connection.
• Feedback Test : To ensure that no feedback voltage from the
consumer side that uses generator.
