REPRODUCTION IN NON- FLOWERING PLANTS 3
Non- flowering plants DO NOT produce seeds,
INTRODUCTION fruits or flowers. This plants mainly produce
using spores. The exception are
GYMNOSPERMS that produce seeds, but no
flower.

SPORE- BEARING
PLANTS
Spore- bearing plants are
simple, or primitive plants, for
example mosses and ferns. These
plants release thousands of tiny
spores, which are spread by the
wind or water. All spore- bearing
plants need plenty of moisture to
reproduce and grow, so most live
in damp or shady areas.
FERNS
• Ferns are green plants with leaves,
often called fronds, that resemble
fiddleheads in spring before they
unroll.
• They are the simplest plants with the
presence of roots , feathery
leaves and underground stems.
• They have spore producing organs,
which is present at the bottom of the
leaves.

MOSSES
These are soft and spongy. This
type of non- flowering plant can
only grow a few inches tall. And
they prefer to grow in clumps or
we can say they grow in
cushions. Mosses don’t have
flowers or seeds, but they utilize
the spores to reproduce.

GYMNOSPERMS
•Gymnosperms are also called naked
seeds because their seeds are open to
the air without any covering. They have no
flowers and fruits.
•Conifers – mean bearing cones. They
use cones to store seeds. These are
woody plants, best example is Pine Tree
