HOW DO POLAR
ANIMALS
SURVIVE IN THE
COLD
• IN THIS WORLD THERE ARE ARE TWO MOST COLDEST
PLACES, NAMELY; THE NORTH AND THE SOUTH POLE.
• IN THESE PLACES EVEN JACKETS ARE USELESS.
• POLAR ANIMALS USE FUR, BUT SOMETIMES EVEN THAT
IS NOT ENOUGH SO THEY USE A THICK LAYER OF FAT
WHICH IS CALLED BLUBBER.
• LEMMINGS ARE ONE OF THE FEW ANIMALS WHO DOES
NOT HAVE NOR FUR NEITHER BLUBBER.
• LEMMINGS ARE MASTERS AT DIGGING HOLES IN THE
SNOW TO CONSERVE HEAT IN THEIR HOLE.
PENGUINS MAKE A CIRCLE TO
MAINTAIN HEAT, SO THEY DON’T
FREEZE, THEY ALSO USE WHERE
THEY PLACE THEIR HEELS ON THE
GROUND AND LIFT THEIR TOES TO
LOSE LESS HEAT.
HOW DO
PHONES
WORK?
BEFORE PHONES WERE
INVENTED PEOPLE USED
PUFFS OF SMOKE TO
DELIVER MESSAGES TO
FRIENDS AND FAMILY WHO
IS FAR. BUT THERE WAS A
PROBLEM THAT THESE
PUFFS COULD NOT BE SEEN
EASILY.
• THEY THEN STARTED
DELIVERING MESSAGES BY
PASSING IT TO A PIGEON, TO
DELIVERY COMPANIES, ETC.
• BUT THESE SOLUTIONS
WOULD TAKE DAYS OR
Then we discovered about electricity and
how we can send a pulse of electricity
through a wire.

So, if you have a wire long enough you can

send a morse code to anyone, any time,
anywhere.
• THE INVENTOR THOUGH OF SENDING VOICE
THROUGH THE WIRE BECAUSE IT WAS HARD TO
LEARN THE MORSE CODE.
• THEN CAME ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL.
• HE MADE A MECHANISM WHERE THERE WAS A
CONE WHICH WOULD PICK YOUR SOUND, THEN
A PIN WOULD HIT A BATTERY WHICH CONVERTS
THE SOUND INTO ELECTRICAL PULSES WHICH
THEN TRAVEL THROUGH THE WIRE AND ON THE
OTHER END A MECHANISM WHICH CONVERTS IT
BACK TO SOUND WAVES.
• BUT PHONES TODAY
HAVE NO WIRE AT ALL TO
COMMUNICATE.
• HOW DOES THAT
WORK???
• IT WORKS BECAUSE NOW
WE HAVE DISCOVERED A
TECHNOLOGY TO
TRANSFER SOUND
THROUGH AIR.

WHY ARE FLAMINGOS PINK?
• SO, FIRSTLY MOST ANIMALS HAVE DIFFERENT
COLOUR BECAUSE OF WHAT THEY ARE MADE OF
SOMETHING CALLED A PIGMENT. FOR EXAMPLE, THE
DOG’S FUR PRODUCES A SUBSTANCE CALLED
MELANIN.

• THESE ANIMAL HAVE THE SAME COLOR FOR THE

REST OF THEIR LIVES. IT IS WHAT THEY WERE BORN
WITH.
But when zoos kept
flamingos, they feed them the
food which they used for
other types of birds.

It worked fine for some time, but

eventually when the flamingos
shed their feathers and they lost
their pink colour.

Then someone suggested to

observe wild flamingos and
see what their diet has.

After the research they found that

flamingos get their colour from their
food which is Shrimp and algae which
is a plant which floats on the surface of
the rocks under water.
FUN FACT

• DID YOU KNOW THAT IF YOU EAT A LOT OF

ORANGE VEGETABLES A HUMAN CAN ALSO TURN
ORANGE. IT IS MOST COMMON IN BABIES, WHEN
YOU FEED THEM A LOT OF BABY FOOD.
WHAT WERE THE FIRST
COMPUTER LIKE?
The first computers were actually humans.

The definition of computer back before machine

computer were, invented computer was a person’s
job.

But the first machine computer were here because

of more complicating math problems, problems
which these human computer could not solve at a
stage.
But these machine computers at the time were huge
they were the size of a room and weighed 30 tons.

The most popular brand was ENIAC.

• BUT THEN CAME HOME COMPUTERS LIKE THE
APPLE II AND ALTAR.

• AFTER MORE INNOVATION NOW COMPUTERS

ARE THAT SMALL, WE CAN WEAR ONE ON OUR
WRISTS OR KEEP THEM IN OUR POCKETS.
DO FISH SLEEP?
Have you ever seen a fish blink or close their eyes
before. Think about it. Maybe they close their eyes
faster than us and our eyes can’t see them blink. No, it
is because fish don’t have eye lids.

Now you must be thinking then they definitely don’t

sleep. There are even some fish who are moving their
entire life. We can’t actually judge if fish sleep or not
because we don’t have a proper definition of sleep, we
just know that we, humans sleep to stay healthy and
survive.

But scientists have found that some fish do sometimes

stay in one place in their tank and say that can be their
way of sleeping.
WHY DO BEARS HIBERNATE?
• AS YOU MIGHT HAVE HEARD BEARS
HIBERNATE IN THE WINTER.
• BUT WHAT MANY PEOPLE DON’T KNOW
IS WHY. I MEAN OTHER ANIMALS DON’T
HIBERNATE IN THE WINTER.
• BUT NOTICE HOW THE OTHER ANIMALS
WHO DON’T HIBERNATE HAVE ENOUGH
FOOD IN THE WINTER.
• BUT IN THE BEAR’S CASE THE BEAR
HAS FISH, BERRIES, ETC. BUT THESE
RESOURCES ARE NOT ENOUGH.
• THAT IS THE REASON THAT BEAR EAT
MORE THAN USUAL IN THE LATE
SUMMER JUST BEFORE WINTER.
