INTRODUCTION
A Boiler is a closed vessel in which water or other suitable liquid is heated to generate steam or vapour.
The steam or vapour is then exited and is used for various purposes like heating applications (water
heating, central heating), power generation or even for cooking and other purposes which could be
domestic or industrial.
TYPES OF BOILER
FIRE TUBE BOILER
ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
• The Fire-tube boiler is in a simple design. • The fluctuation of load cannot be easily handled.
• The rate of steam generation is low.
• It is cheaper than the water tube boiler.
• A Fire boiler is used in small power plants.
• The maintenance cost is low.
• The maximum working pressure (20 bar)
• The procedure for cleaning is very simple. comparatively water tube boiler.
• To operate a fired boiler, no need for skilled • Overall efficiency is up to 75% only.
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
Position of water and hot gases Hot gases inside the tubes and Water inside the tubes and hot
water outside the tubes gases outside the tubes
Operating pressure Limited to 25 bar More than 125 bars
Rate of steam generation Lower Higher
Suitability Not suitable for large power Suitable for large power plant
plant
Chance of explosion Less due to low pressure More due to low pressure
Floor space requirement More Less
SELECTION OF A BOILER
• Erection facilities
Boilers are a crucial component in many heating and industrial systems, and their proper operation
and maintenance are essential for safe and efficient performance.
