Diving into Mastery Guidance for Educators

Each activity sheet is split into three sections, diving, deeper and deepest, which are
represented by the following icons:
These carefully designed activities take your
children through a learning journey, initially
ensuring they are fluent with the key concept being
Diving taught; then applying this to a range of reasoning
and problem-solving activities.

These sheets might not necessarily be used in a

linear way. Some children might begin at the
Deeper
‘Deeper’ section and in fact, others may ‘dive
straight in’ to the ‘Deepest’ section if they have
already mastered the skill and are applying this to
show their depth of understanding.

Jack has calculated that both of these parallelograms have an area of 144cm².

Area of a Parallelogram Deepest

Use the formula base × height to calculate the area of a parallelogram.

I am thinking of a parallelogram with side lengths that are whole numbers.

Give the dimensions of all the possible parallelograms I could be thinking of.

It has an area of 96cm2.

Its base measures between 10cm and 50cm.
Its height measures between 3cm and 10cm. If the parallelogram has an area
of 96cm2, then it could have the
following dimensions:
base = b and height = h
between 3cm
b = 3cm and h = 32cm
and 10cm
b = 4cm and h = 24cm
b = 6cm and h = 16cm
between 10cm and 50cm b = 8cm and h = 12cm
