This course examines ethical issues related to
biotechnology and health care including abortion, assisted suicide, genetic counselling and new reproductive technologies. Students explore hypothetical and actual cases of bioethical dilemmas. Viewpoints examined includes that of health professionals, theologians, lawmakers and laypeople. LAW COURSE: This course focusses on ehical challenges surrounding the relationships among technology, medicine and the law. CLINICAL COURSE: Students in this course are introduced to the subdiscipline which encompasses ethical problems that arise in clinical health care settings. This might include discussion of environment and research ethics, As well as patients’ role in making decisions about his health that are emphasized by conflict of interest, cultural diversity and relationship among medical practitioners just like in paternalism, benevolent deception and others. PUBLIC POLICY COURSE: Issues in Bioethics are intrinsically intertwined with public policy such as end of life decision, informed consent, privacy, patients’ legal rights, Eugenics movement and others.
