Parts of Speech
• Subject – yang melakukan suatu pekerjaan/kegiatan
• Noun (kata benda); table, desk, tree, shoes, etc – the table is in the outside of that room
• Pronoun (kata pengganti benda);
• Personal pronoun : I, you, we, they, he, she, it, me, you, him, her, it, us, them, their
• Demonstrative pronoun ; this, that, these, those, - those report should be submitted before 11.59 PM
• Indefinite pronoun ; anybody, other, nobody, etc, - nobody wants to get punishment from the boss
• Interogative pronoun ; who, what, which, whose, - who do you think we should support for the upcoming board
election?
• Relative pronoun ; whom, what, which – he saw a woman whom worked at the store near his house
• Verb (kata kerja) – kata yang mengekspresikan kegiatan/perlakuan
• Object (objek) – yang menerima perlakuan
• Noun (kata benda)
• Pronoun (kata pengganti benda);
• Adverb (kata keterangan) – kata yang menerangkan kata kerja
• Adverbs of manner, How ; badly, sadly, quietly, quickly etc – she says the story sadly
• Adverbs of place, Where ; here, above, under, behind, etc – please put the paper
here!
• Adverbs of time, When ; now, yesterday, later, soon, etc – she gave me birthday
cake yesterday
• Adverbs of degree, How much ; quite, too, very, etc – the dish is too salty
• Adverbs of frequency, How often ; always, sometimes, often, frequently, seldom, etc –
she comes to my house frequently/she often comes to my house
• Adjective (kata sifat); - kata yang menerangkan kata benda atau pengganti orang
• angry, sick, dizzy, annoying, big, small, old, new, pink, orange, neat, rough, etc
Sentence Building
Simple Sentence
• Kalimat dasar dalam Bahasa Inggris pasti akan memiliki komponen
yang membuat ia menjadi sebuah kalimat. Komponen pembentuknya
terdiri dari setidaknya;

Subject +Verb
• Lebih lengkap nya maka kalimat akan terdiri dari;

Subject + Verb + Object


• Atau;

Subject + Verb +Adj/Adv

• Single Noun/Pronoun • Singular
Noun – s/es Verb + s/es
He – She – It is/was
• Plural Noun/Pronoun • Plural

I – You – We - They am/are/were
Subject-Verb Agreement
• Singular Subject – Singular Verb
• She forgets my name
• He goes to school every 7 AM
• The plant needs water
• The dog barks
• It needs more than 24 hours to go to Bali by car
• Updated news is available every morning

• Plural Subject – Plural Verb


• I forget her name
• I go to school every 8 AM
• The dogs bark

Contoh Kalimat Simple Sentence
• Subject-Verb

• I complete the report
• She goes to the wet market
• Subject-Verb-Adjective/Adverb
• The professor moves the schedule frequently in every semester
• They keep the financial report under the desk
Compound Sentences
• Compound Sentence (Kalimat Majemuk) merupakan kalimat yang
terdiri dari dua klausa independen (atau kalimat lengkap) yang
terhubung satu sama lain dengan suatu konjungsi
• Konjungsi yang dimaksud adalah :
• For
• And
• Nor
• But
• Or
• Yet
• So
Contoh Kalimat Compound Sentence
• Maria waits for the train but it seems the train not on schedule
• I look for Maria and Samantha but I don’t find them
• Mary and Samantha arrived at the bus station before noon, and they
left on the bus before I arrived.
• I don’t eat any food contained of starch so I always see the
ingredients in each food packaging

Complex Sentence
• Kalimat kompleks terdiri dari klausa independen dan satu atau lebih klausa
dependen yang saling terhubung. Klausa dependen mirip dengan klausa
independen, atau kalimat lengkap, tetapi tidak memiliki salah satu elemen yang
menjadikannya kalimat lengkap.
• Contoh :
• Because Lala and John arrived at school after 7 AM
• While she called on the other customer
• Before they leave us
• Klausa dependen dimulai dengan konjungsi subordinasi
• Klausa dependen seperti yang di atas tidak dapat berdiri sendiri sebagai
kalimat, tetapi dapat ditambahkan ke klausa independen untuk membentuk
kalimat yang kompleks.
• Kata penghubung yang biasa ada Jadi dalam kalimat kompleks terdapat
dalam kalimat ini gabungan antara klausa dependen dan
klausa independen. Gabungan kalimat ini
• After bisa diawali dengan klausa dependen
• Although terlebih dahulu ataupun sebaliknya
• Because
• Until • Because Lala and John arrived at
• When school after 7 AM, they got
punishment from our teacher
