Strepcococcus
Corinebacterium
Baktaeri Anaerob
General Characteristics
of Streptococci
● Gram-positive spherical/ovoid cocci arranged in
long chains; commonly in pairs
● Non-spore-forming, nonmotile
● Can form capsules and slime layers
● Facultative anaerobes
● Do not form catalase, but have a peroxidase system
● Most parasitic forms are fastidious and require
enriched media
● Small, nonpigmented colonies
● Sensitive to drying, heat, and disinfectants

Classification of Streptococci Based on Hemolysis on
Blood Agar
Streptococci
Hemolysis on BA
– -hemolysis -hemolysis -hemolysis -hemolysis
Partial hemolysis
Green discoloration around the colonies
e.g. non-groupable streptococci (S.
pneumoniae & S. viridans)
– -hemolysis
Complete hemolysis
Clear zone of hemolysis around the colonies
e.g. Group A & B (S. pyogenes & S.
agalactiae)
– -hemolysis
No lysis
e.g. Group D (Enterococcus spp)

Corynebacterium
Aerobic and anaerobic bacteria can be identified by growing them in liquid culture:
1: Obligate aerobic (oxygen-needing) bacteria gather at the top of the test tube in order to absorb maximal amount of oxygen.
2: Obligate anaerobic bacteria gather at the bottom to avoid oxygen.
3: Facultative bacteria gather mostly at the top, since aerobic respiration is the most beneficial one; but, as lack of oxygen does not
hurt them, they can be found all along the test tube.
4: Microaerophiles gather at the upper part of the test tube but not at the top. They require oxygen but at a low concentration.
5: Aerotolerant bacteria are not affected at all by oxygen, and they are evenly spread along the test tube.
Clostridium
● Salah satu jenis bakteri anaerob utama yang sering
menyebabkan infeksi muskuloskeletal
● Berbentuk batang anaerobik pembentuk spora
● Gram positif dengan diameter yang cukup besar
Clostridium tetani
CLOSTRIDIUM TETANI
Bakteri gram (+)
Anaerob
Bentuk Batang
Bergerak dan menghasilkan spora
berbentuk oval menyerupai raket
tenis
Tahan bertahun-tahun pada
lingkungan tertentu dan tahan
terhadap sinar matahari
Blood agar:
Swarming due
its motility
Clostridium tetani
Patogenesis
Kontaminasi luka dengan spora C. Tetanus
Germinasi spora dan sel vegetatif bertumbuh
menghasilkan toksin (dalam keadaan anaerob)
Toksin :
1. Tetanolisin secara lokal merusak jaringan
sekitar infeksi
2. Tetanospasmin yang menyebabkan gejala
klinis Tetanus
Risus
sardonicus
Opistotonus
Clostridium perfringens
Spora subterminal
