CE G617 ADVANCED
STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS

EFFECT OF WIND LOAD ON HIGH

RISE STRUCTURES RESTING ON
SLOPING GROUND
BY: CHENNAMSETTI TARUN
ID NUMBER: 2023H1430022H
INTRODUCTION
 In a creating nation like India there is a shortage of land because of

urbanization and industrialization, which drove the path for

development of skyscrapers on uneven areas.

 This leads to challenges that necessitate a deeper understanding of

their implications. One such challenge is the effect of wind load on

high-rise buildings located on sloping ground.

 This project seeks to analyse the high-rise buildings resting on

sloping terrain, and the obtained results are observed.

2/12

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of analysis of wind load effects on an R.C. structure resting on sloping ground are as
follows:
 To determine the distribution of wind loads on the structure considering sloping ground conditions.
 To investigate the structural behaviour of the R.C. structure under wind loads, including deflections,
shear forces, and wind displacements.
 Based on the analysis results, offer recommendations for improving the structural stability design,
construction techniques to enhance the wind resistance of the R.C. structure sloping ground.
Gaps or improvements in the analysis:
 To analyse the structure under non uniform wind loads and compare the results.

ANALYSIS

 The 3D model of the structure is analysed

using ETABS software. The beams and
columns are designed as per the IS
875:2015 (part-3) and the dead loads, lie
loads, wall loads and the floor finish are
taken according to the IS code provisions.

EXTENT OF THE PROJECT
 Generally, wind load acting on a structure will be
random and non uniform. So, the modelled structures
are now subjects to the non uniform wind loads and
are the analysis is done. The results are as follows:

CONCLUSIONS
From the analysis and study done from the project the following conclusions can be drawn:

 Story drift increases with the increase in number of stories and slope for 39m/s wind speed. Story displacement
also increases with the increase in number of stories and slope.
 For different zone wind speeds i.e., 44m/s and 47m/s the Story drift increases with the increase in number of
stories and slope. Story displacement also increases with the increase in number of stories and slope.
 The Structure on sloping ground exhibits a higher maximum displacement, which can lead to the critical
situations compared to the flat ground.
 It is observed that the displacement due to the non uniform wind loads are higher compared to the previous
results.

FURTHER SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

 The analysis can be continued for different terrain categories and different wind
speed zones and the results can be observed.
 Effect of wind can be observed for higher structures, for different slopes and
displacements and other results can be compared.
 The analysis can be done by considering seismic loads also, so that we will get the
structure’s behavior in real time case.
