In America, education has been reserved for upper-class
boys and men since the eighteenth century. Some co-education
critics have thought that it would have disastrous consequences
on both sexes to put women and men together.
The Gendered

Classroom
The formal system of teaching gender starts the moment we
reach school and continues throughout our educational lives. Boys
and girls learn-and teach each other-what activities and interactions
are suitable for boys and girls and ensure that everyone behaves
according to schedule.
