What is Communication Aids?
• Communication aids is anything that
helps an individual communicate
more effectively with those around
them.
• Communication Aid can be anything
from paper based systems, for
example simple letter boards,
through to sophisticated pieces of
computer equipment.
Communication Aids
Communication aids can
allow children to express
themselves in some
situations where a
communication chart or
book may be inadequate.
Communication Aids
 also refers to AAC devices
means an Augmentative and
Alternative Communication.
 This AAC Devices mean a
huge range of techniques which
support or replace spoken
communication.

augmentative and alternative
communication devices that
produce speech for an individual
who was limited or no means to
communicate.
TWO MAIN TYPES OF AUGMENTATIVE
AND ALTERNATIVE COMMUNICATION
(AAC)

1. Unaided
Communication

Unaided Communication
 Does not use
additional equipment
Example: Body
language, gesture,
vocalization, signing
aided Communication
Uses additional equipment
Low tech method: simple,
laminated book to carry
around few pages of pictures
or symbols.

• High tech method:
Pictures or symbols with
words and with alternative
hardware option to provide
access.
Importance of Communication aids

• Improve the clarity of the information


being conveyed
• Enhance the retention of the
message
• Add variety and interest to the
presentation
• Enhance the credibility of the
speaker.

Communication is the exchange of
information between a sender and
receiver.
It is used to be that you only had to
worry about the way you communicated
face to face or on paper.
Communication Strategies
are the blueprints for how this
information will be
exchanged.
TYPES OF
COMMUNICATI

VERBAL COMMUNICATION
Verbal communication involves the word you
say.
Two categories:
1.Written
It consist of avenues such as email, text
and chats
2.Oral
The best example for this are the
phone calls, video chats, and face-to-face.
NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION

Nonverbal strategies it consist of


mostly visual cues such as body
language, facial expression,
physical distance between
communicators or the tone of
your voice.
VISUAL COMMUNICATION
 Can be seen through signs,
web pages, and illustrations
 Used in the workplace to
draw attention and provide
documentation.
