You have been given 1 square of an OS map. Your
square is 1000m by 1000m.
Task 1: Using the map on
the next slide and the OS
symbols key, answer the
questions below:
1. Identify a river.
2. Where would you find a
public house?
3. Identify a woodland.
4. Identify a main road.
5. Identify a church. Stretch & Challenge: If you took a photo
of the land in your grid square what else
might you see that is not on the map?

OS map to life by:


- Draw the landscape that you
think is represented in the map.
Choose an area or one grid
square to focus on.
- Making sure you include all
the features like trees, rivers,
lakes, roads, houses, farms etc.
- It will be brought to life with
colour.

Stretch & challenge: Imagine you have a birds eye view of your
OS map square, write a story explaining everything that you see
over the day.
