RADIATION MEASURING
EQUIPMENT

Industry(Nucleonix Systems Private Limited)

INTRODUCTION
Radiation: Radiation is energy that comes from a source and travels through
space at the speed of light.

• This energy has an electric field and a magnetic field associated with it, and
has wave-like properties.

• You could also call radiation “electromagnetic waves”.

Radiation is denoted with the symbol shown

to in fig (a)

PURPOSE OF RADIATION MEASURING
EQUIPMENT
• Radiation Detector is an instrument used to detect or identify high-energy
particles, such as those produced by nuclear decay, cosmic radiation, or
reactions in a particle accelerator.

• To determine a person's biological risk, scientists have assigned a number to

each type of ionizing radiation (alpha and beta particles, gamma rays, and
x-rays) depending on that type's ability to transfer energy to the cells of the
body.

• Radiotracers and nucleonic gauges have been widely used by mining

industries to improve the quality of products, optimize processes, and save
energy and materials.
MINI PROJECT
Design of Area Gamma Monitor

Area Gamma Monitor Designs

Modifications done in Area gamma monitor using Solidworks and the design part
is given to me. As per the instructions they mentioned I completed designing of
Area gamma monitor NXG_AGM

ANALYSIS

For 50 N there is a stress induced are 0.1327 MPa which is very less and the
deflection shown in the image is to describe the way of deflection and not the
original deflection took place. This analysis is done in fusion 360.
CHANGES/IMPROVEMENT FROM
PREVIOUS DESIGN TO PRESENT DESIGN

• Industry 4.0 (IOT devices)

• Change in PCB board

• Change of Aluminum grade

• Design Parameters

• Display format

• sensors
CHALLENGES FACED WHILE
DESIGNING
• Parameters were somewhat problematic as there should not be any changes of the
dimensions but there is a requirement for it

• Research of Aluminum grade and selecting it accordingly

• Problems faced due to adding of new factors

• Understanding of the design and at the same time researching for a suitable
elements to be added

• Analyzing the frame of the design

EXPERIENCE
• Workshop Section: My internship began in the workshop section, where I was
introduced to the basics of radiation detector assembly.

• I learned how a design should be made and what all challenges may occur and
how to resolve those challenges.

• Understanding their uses and applications was essential for the assembly process
and design.

• Additionally, I familiarized myself with various machines including drilling

machines, flywheel presses, grinding machines, and tapping machines.

• I was assigned the task of updating a design or creating a new design from
previous version.
EXPERIENCE
• Throughout my internship, I engaged in drilling operations using drilling
machines, punching operations using flywheel presses, and filing operations to
ensure precise dimensions and smooth finishes for panels, battery boxes, display
frames, and other components. These tasks required precision and adherence to
quality standards.

• I continued to cut copper sheets for PCB shielding's, specifically for PD716 and
PD716 digital pocket dosimeters. I marked and cut approximately 100 copper
pieces for these specific dimensions.

• I had the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in the field of

radiation detection. I gained knowledge about different types of detectors, their
components, and the intricate assembly processes involved. I also honed my skills
in soldering, drilling, filing, and other essential techniques used in the production
of radiation detectors.
CONCLUSION
• Overall, my internship at NUCLEONIX Systems Private Limited provided me
with valuable insights into the manufacturing and assembly processes of
radiation detectors and even in design field.

• I developed practical skills, learned to work efficiently in a professional

environment, and gained a deeper understanding of the importance of
precision and quality control in the production of such critical equipment.

• The experience further solidified my interest in the field of radiation detection

and has equipped me with practical knowledge that will be beneficial for my
future career endeavors.
