 Selain verb, adjective, conjunction dan lain-lain, ada hal yang harus kamu
pahami terlebih dahulu untuk membuat kalimat dalam bahasa Inggris, yaitu
prepositions.

• Definisi English Preposition

• Reposisi adalah kata atau kumpulan kata yang digunakan sebelum kata benda, kata
ganti orang, atau frasa benda untuk menunjukkan arah, lokasi, waktu, hubungan
tempat atau mengenalkan sebuah objek. Preposisi mengindikasikan adanya hubungan
antar kata di dalam sebuah kalimat. Banyak preposisi yang akan memberimu
informasi letak dari suatu benda, atau kapan berlangsungnya sebuah kejadian.
Contohnya seperti, on, under, at dan lain-lain.
• Terdapat beberapa jenis english prepositions, yaitu, direction, place dan time.
 Preposition of Direction
• Di jenis direction ini terdapat beberapa prepositions. Di antaranya
adalah, near, inside, on, beside, under, behind, in between, in
front, above, out of, dan around.
 Near and Inside
• Near: dekat
• The book is near the glass.
• Jonathan won’t go near the river.
• There are restaurants near here.

• Inside: di dalam
• There’s a treasure inside the cave!
• Inside the box, you’ll find my ring.
• She has to write a note inside the book.
 On and Beside
• On: di atas menempel
• The cat sits on the table.
• Don’t jump on the bed!
• Put the pillows on the sofa.

• Beside: sebelah
• Stand beside the statue, you’ll see the most beautiful sunset.
• Walk slowly beside me, don’t run.
• The guy beside my dad was wearing a black suit.
 Under and Behind
• Under: di bawah
• There are still a lot of secrets we have yet to find under the seas.
• The cat sleeps under the chair.
• Do you have to put your shoes under your bed?

• Behind: di belakang
• The squirrel is hiding behind the tree.
• You have to stand behind me.
• Someone grabbed Melissa from behind.
 Between and In front
• In between: di antara
• In between the bread, you can either place jam, salad and meat, or eggs to make a sandwich.
• I learned how to skateboard between the age of 9 and 12.
• The sweater came up in different colors, black, blue, red, yellow, and everything in between.

• In front: di depan
• Can you walk in front of me?
• The temperature is so hot it’s like standing in front of the sun.
• You can’t park your car in front of the garage.
 Above and Out of
• above: di atas tidak menempel
• The plane is flying above the clouds.
• The people above my apartment are my childhood friends.
• Henry scored above average in the Spanish Exam.

• Out of: dari (keluar)
• Samantha just walked out of the library.
• Get out of there! It’s dangerous!
• Mike’ll be out of town for several months.
 Around
• Around: di sekeliling
• Angelina had a scarf around her neck.
• They sat around the table.
• The earth goes around the sun.
 Preposition of Time dan Preposition of
Place
• Untuk preposisi waktu dan tempat, keduanya memiliki kesamaan bentuk.
Hanya saja berbeda dalam penggunaannya, dan menyesuaikan dengan
konteks kalimat. Preposisi jenis-jenis tersebut di antaranya adalah at, in,
dan on.
 At dalam preposition of time digunakan ketika menunjukkan keadaan
yang terjadi pada suatu kejadian persis. Sedangkan dalam preposition
of place digunakan untuk menggambarkan benda, lokasi atau titik
spesifik,

• Don’t forget to catch the bus at 3.00 PM.
• Bring your food at dinnertime.
• No cellphones or games at bedtime.

• You can put the umbrella at the corner.
• I’m waiting at the bus stop.

 Dalam preposition of time, in digunakan untuk menunjukkan bulan, tahun,
abad atau periode waktu yang lama. Sedangkan dalam preposition of place,
digunakan untuk menunjukkan tempat tertutup.

 On dalam preposition of time digunakan untuk hari dan tanggal.
Sedangkan dalam preposition of place, on digunakan untuk
menunjukkan sebuah permukaan.
