is a condition that affects the


ability to communicate.
It can affect the way of speak,
as well as the way of write and
understand spoken and written
language.

People with this type of aphasia find it


difficult to get words out, they speak in
very short sentences, and they omit some
words. The person might say, "Food" or
"Walk in the park today."

Symptoms of Expressive Aphasia

o Struggles to find the right words and may put incorrect


strings of words together.
o Utters short sentences or single words repeatedly.
o Finds difficulty with grammar and using conjunctions.
o Tiredness after speaking.
As a PCT you
need to:

o Ask them questions it may be easier for them to communicate


by saying or gesturing “yes” or “no”.
o Give them plenty of time to talk.
o Be patient.
o Slow down when you talk to them.
