Introduction
Integration of Internet of Things (IoT) in the rooms can
significantly change the guest experience and make it better or in
some situations can negatively affect the guest's stay at the hotel.
Further will be presented: innovations that are integrated
into hotel rooms, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of
such innovations.

Examples of IoT devices in hotel rooms
Standard IoT-based hotel automation system
can control:
• Lights
• Curtains
• Thermostats
• Humidity sensors
• Door sensors
• Wall switches
• Door sensor inside the minibar
• Voic-controlled customer service
• Guest room automation

Guest room automation:
A specially created network that will include
automatic storage of guest preferences, such as
the temperature in the room, food and drinks
that he most often orders. Also, such a system
will be able, for example, to recognize when a
guest wakes up to play music for him and open
the curtains or even greet the guest by name
(COGNITEQ, 2022).

Voice-controlled customer service:


This service allows the guest to call a room
service, simply have a discussion with the
assistant, book a table, order food or make an
appointment in spa center just by using the
voice which is faster and more convenient
(COGNITEQ, 2022).

Hotels that are already using IoT systems
Hotel companies like Best Western, Wynn and Marriott have been the early adopters of voice-
controlled customer service (Revfine.com, 2023).
But the Marriott already realized a big project together with Legrand and Samsung and
presented IoT smart hotel room of the future. This project includes numerous systems and
apps which are connected with each
other and exchange data in order to
improve guests’ experience
(COGNITEQ, 2022).

Conclusion
All in all, IoT soon might be integrated in
many hotels because despite the fact
that there is a threat of cyber attack or
there are people which does not really
want to stay in a hotel room full of last
technologies it is still very convenient for
many guests as well as for the company
which can save money and provide a
hyper-personalized service.
