DISORDERS:
 What is an anxiety disorder?
 An anxiety disorder is a type of mental health
condition. If you have an anxiety disorder, you
may respond to certain things and situations with
fear and dread. You may also experience physical
signs of anxiety, such as a pounding heart and
sweating. It's normal to have some anxiety

 Feeling restless, wound-up, or on-edge.
 Being easily fatigued.
 Having difficulty concentrating.
 Being irritable.
 Having headaches, muscle aches, stomachaches, or
unexplained pains.

DIAGNOSIS OF ANXIETY DISORDERDS:
 To help diagnose an anxiety disorder, your mental health
provider may, Give you a psychological evaluation. This
involves discussing your thoughts, feelings and behavior to
help pinpoint a diagnosis and check for related
complications. Anxiety disorders often occur along with
other mental health problems — such as depression or
substance misuse — which can make diagnosis more
challenging.
 Compare your symptoms to the criteria in the DSM-5. Many
doctors use the criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistical
Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), published by the
American Psychiatric Association, to diagnose an anxiety
disorder.
HIGH RISK FACTORS:
Risk factors for anxiety disorders include:
 History of mental health disorder.
 Childhood sexual abuse.
 Trauma.
 Negative life events.
 Severe illness or chronic health condition.
 Substance abuse
 Low self-esteem.
TREATMENT FOR ANXIETY DISORDERS:
 1. Medication. Several types of drugs are used to treat anxiety disorders. Discuss the
benefits and drawbacks of each medication with your doctor or psychiatrist to determine
which one is best for you.
• Antidepressants. Modern antidepressants (SSRIs and SNRIs) are usually the first medications
prescribed to someone suffering from an anxiety disorder. SSRIs include citalopram
(Lexapro) and fluoxetine (Prozac). Duloxetine (Cymbalta) and venlafaxine are examples of
SNRIs (Effexor).
• Bupropion. Another type of antidepressant that is commonly used to treat chronic anxiety.
• Other antidepressants. These include tricyclics and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
• Benzodiazepines . Examples are: alprazolam or( xanax) and clonazepam or( klonopin)
• Beta-blockers . A beta blocker may help you during an acute anxiety attack
• Anticonvulsants. Used to prevent seizures in people with epilepsy, this drugs also can relieve
certain anxiety disorder symptoms .
• Buspirone (Buspar). This anti-anxiety drug is sometimes used to treat chronic anxiety
• Antipsychotics. Low doses of these drugs can be added to help make other treatments work
better

 Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a popular type of psychotherapy that teaches you how
to change negative, or panic-inducing, thoughts and behaviors into positive ones. You'll learn
how to approach and manage fearful or worrying situations without becoming anxious. Some
locations provide family CBT sessions

 Sleep disorders (or sleep-wake disorders) involve problems with the
quality, timing, and amount of sleep, which result in daytime
distress and impairment in functioning. Sleep-wake disorders often
occur along with medical conditions or other mental health
conditions, such as depression, anxiety, or cognitive disorders.

DIAGNOSIS OF SLEEP DISORDERS:
How are sleep disorders diagnosed?
 To make a diagnosis, your health care provider will use
your medical history, your sleep history, and a physical
exam. You may also have a sleep study (polysomnogram).
The most common types of sleep studies monitor and
record data about your body during a full night of sleep.
 Polysomnography, also called a sleep study, is a
comprehensive test used to diagnose sleep disorders.
Polysomnography records your brain waves, the oxygen
level in your blood, heart rate and breathing, as well as
eye and leg movements during the study.
