Meaning of Human Development

1) Development
- Aspects and processes of all changes that occur

throughout life, from the moment of fertilization, when

sperm and egg combine, to death

(Process of Changing Pattern)

- The orderly and steady growth, adaptation, and

change of individuals over the course of their lives

- Changes in physical and mental structure


or form that occur as a result of the constant trans-

formation and exchange of energy within an organ-

ism and energy within the environment

(1) Definition of Development

• Koffka, 1924 :

“ Organisms and organs① increase in quantity, ② become more


precise in structure, and ③ become more capable in func-
tion”

• Hurlock, 1950 :

“As a change of mind and body, ① change in size, ② change


in proportion, ③ disappearance of old characteristics, ④ ac-
quisition of new characteristics”

- Development refers to progressive change including quanti-

tative and qualitative change (Changing of Quantity & Qual-

ity)

- Since the 1960s, this concept of development began to ex-

pand, from the `1970s, the scope of development research be-

gan to including in adulthood and old age beyond childhood

and adolescence (Extending from Adultery to Old Age)
