Aluminum-based alloys
• Alloys with an aluminum base have a wide range of mechanical properties, mainly because of various hardening mechanisms
and heat treatments that can be used with them
• These alloys have high electrical conductivity and generally good atmospheric corrosion resistance.
• Parts made of aluminum-based and magnesium-based alloys are known as light-metal castings.
Lead-based alloys
• These alloys have applications similar to tin-based alloys, but the toxicity of lead is a major drawback to their
wider application.
d) Malleable iron
• The principal use of malleable iron is for railroad equipment and various types of hardware, fittings, and components for
electrical applications.
