Rituals are very typical of African societies
Enable Africans to seek directly the blessings of the
creator God.
They seek the advice, guidance and protection of
lesser gods through whom the supreme deity is
approached.
Africans believe their ancestors exist in the spirit
world and influence the lives of the living.
Communication between Africans, the lesser
gods and the spirits of their ancestors is
through libation prayers and sacrifices
Members of whole ethnic groups meet
occasionally.

TYPES OF TRADITIONAL FESTIVALS
Two types:
a. those festivals associated with primary
agricultural occupation and harvest
b. commemorative festival

sacred legends, myths, and traditions of
origin, historical events
