Biodiversity
How can bee benefit the biodiversity ?
Pollination activities
Bees, particularly honeybees,
contribute significantly to the
pollination of plants. This process is
essential for the reproduction of many
plant species, including those that
provide food for other animals.

The Early bumblebee

Due to the Early bumblebee’s small

size and agility allow it to enter plants
with drooping flowers such as comfrey
- Comfrey can be used in mixed crop-
livestock farming systems.

Certain plants heavily rely on or are
more efficiently pollinated by bees.

Environmantal
change
Bee are watchdog for environmental change !
Monitor
By observing bee populations and
behaviors, we gain valuable insights
into the subtle shifts in our
ecosystems, allowing us to address
and mitigate environmental changes
effectively.

Bee detectors
The increasing release of harmful pollutants
into our environment threatens our health. To
detect these dangerous substances, scientists are
using special detectors called “biomonitors”.

Honeybees collect pollutants from the air, soil, and

water which makes them exceptional indicators of what
is going on in our environment.
They searched through scientific databases
and found 19 studies on this topic
published between 2010 and 2021 (for
example ‘One-Health’, ‘EcoHealth’,
‘Planetary Health’) they share a common
focus on encouraging disciplines like
medicine, veterinary science, ecological
and environmental science to start
collaborating across disciplinary
boundaries.

Crop production
Bees are essential for the production of many fruits, vegetables, and
nuts. In fact, the value of bee pollination to global agriculture is
estimated to be over $235 billion per year according to Forbes.

Example
Apple
Bees are an essential part of the agricultural ecosystem, as
they are responsible for pollinating about
80% of apple trees worldwide.

Goldenseal

Goldenseal is a perennial herb in

the buttercup family, native to
North America. It is known for its
thick, yellow, knotted rootstock,
