Coconut Infused Candle

Floor Wax
BACKGROUND OF
THE STUDY
Coconuts:

Coconuts are tropical fruits that are widely

cultivated in many regions around the world.
They are known for their versatile uses in
various industries, such as food, cosmetics,
and household products. Coconut oil, derived
from the meat of mature coconuts, is rich in
fatty acids and has moisturizing and
antimicrobial properties.
Candles:

Candles are typically made from wax, which

can be sourced from various materials such as
paraffin, beeswax, soybean oil, or palm oil.
They are traditionally used for lighting,
fragrance, or decorative purposes. Depending
on the type of wax used, candles can have
different burning properties, scents, and levels
of toxicity.
Floor Waxes:

Floor wax is a protective coating applied to

floors to enhance their appearance,
durability, and ease of maintenance. It forms
a protective layer on the surface, guarding
against stains, scratches, and wear. Traditional
floor waxes are often petroleum-based and
contain synthetic chemicals.
The Concept of Coconut-Infused Candles as Floor Wax:

The idea of using coconut-infused candles as floor wax could

stem from the desire to create a more natural and
environmentally friendly alternative to conventional floor
waxes. The concept might involve utilizing the beneficial
properties of coconut oil, such as its moisturizing and
antimicrobial qualities, as a key ingredient in a wax
formulation. The candle component could provide the
necessary waxy texture and serve as a source of fragrance if
desired.
THEORETICAL BACKGROUND
1. Coconut Oil Properties:

Coconut oil is a natural substance

derived from coconuts. It contains a
high concentration of fatty acids, such
as lauric acid, which provide various
benefits. Some relevant properties of
coconut oil include:
- Moisturizing: Coconut oil
has emollient properties,
which can help moisturize
and condition surfaces.
- Antimicrobial: Coconut oil contains
antimicrobial compounds that can
inhibit the growth of certain bacteria
and fungi, making it potentially useful
for cleaning and maintaining surfaces.
- Viscosity: Coconut oil has a
relatively low melting point and can
be solid or liquid depending on
temperature. Its viscosity can
contribute to the texture and
spreadability of a wax formulation.
2. Candles and Wax:

Candles are typically made from waxes that

can be derived from different sources, such
as paraffin, beeswax, soybean oil, or palm oil.
These waxes provide the structure, texture,
and often fragrance to the candles. Relevant
characteristics of candles and wax include:
- Wax Texture: The texture of the
wax can affect its spreadability
and adherence to surfaces. Soft
waxes may be easier to apply and
distribute.
- Melting Point: The melting point
of the wax determines its stability
and resistance to heat. It is
important for a floor wax to have a
melting point that is suitable for
the floor type being treated.
- Binding Properties: The wax
needs to have sufficient binding
properties to form a protective
layer on the floor surface,
providing shine, protection, and
ease of maintenance.
3. Floor Wax Formulation:

Theoretical development of a coconut-infused

candle floor wax formulation would involve
considering the compatibility and potential
synergies between coconut oil and the wax
used in candles. Some considerations for
formulation development could include:
- Wax Composition: Determining
the appropriate ratio of coconut oil
to the existing candle wax to
achieve the desired texture,
spreadability, and adherence to the
floor.
- Stability: Ensuring that the
coconut-infused wax formulation
remains stable over time, without
separation or degradation.
- Performance: Evaluating the
effectiveness of the coconut-
infused wax in providing shine,
protection, and ease of
maintenance for different types
of flooring surfaces.
- Safety: Assessing the safety of
the coconut-infused wax
formulation, considering factors
such as flammability, toxicity, and
potential allergic reactions.
