Is it a Fracture at the Knee??

• Ottawa Knee Rules


• Aged 55 years or over; OR
• Tenderness at the head of the fibula; OR
• Isolated tenderness of the patella; OR
• Inability to flex knee to 90 degrees; OR
• Inability to bear weight (defined as an inability to take
four steps, ie. two steps on each leg, regardless of
limping) immediately and at presentation.
Is it a Fracture at the Ankle??
• Ottawa Ankle Rules
• Pain in the malleolar zone; and
• Bone tenderness along the distal 6 cm of the posterior edge of the tibia or tip of the medial malleolus, OR
• Bone tenderness along the distal 6 cm of the posterior edge of the fibula or tip of the lateral malleolus, OR
• An inability to bear weight both immediately and in the emergency department for four steps.

• Pain in the midfoot zone; and
• Bone tenderness at the base of the fifth metatarsal (for foot injuries), OR
• Bone tenderness at the navicular bone (for foot injuries), OR
• An inability to bear weight both immediately and in the emergency department for four steps.
