The Church is a choir of victorious angels

and not a jeweller’s store; i.e. it is not a
place where gold is displayed or silver is
made. The Church is the human souls, and
only for these souls God accepts any other
offering/gift. St. John, the Golden Mouth

Stand as befits the house of

God in silence and tranquillity
and purify your consciences,
for there lies the remedy for the

 ‫يشير الثوب الموشى بالذهب الى الفضيلة انه لم يقل فى‬
‫الكتاب" ثوب ذهبى " بل " موشى بالذهب " الثوب‬
‫ ام الموشى بالذهب فإن جزءًا‬، ‫الذهبى يكون بكامله ذهبيًا‬
... ‫منه ذهبى واآلخر حريرى‬

The clothing woven with gold refers to

virtue as the book did not say “golden
clothing” but “dress woven with gold”.
The golden clothing is entirely gold,
whereas the woven with gold is partly gold
… and partly silk

. ‫ وآخرون مكرسون‬، ‫والبعض أرامل‬
‫ فإنى أقبلك ما دمت‬، ‫ فكن حريريًا‬، ‫ان لم تكن ذهبًا‬

I sin secretly before God, He knows my heart

and forgives me through repentance and
confession before the priest, for Christ said:
“whatever you bind on earth will be bound in
... heaven…” (Mat 18:18)

Baptism is an apostolic tradition and

the church always abides by baptising
children as our apostles have done

The church is keen on baptising babes

because it believes that they cannot receive
.life in Christ by any other way

The church prepares babes for

baptism and recites the creed on
their behalf. (St. Augustine)

.. ‫ والثانى عن مبدأ أبدى‬، ‫ األول صادر عن مبدأ قابل للفناء‬.b

We have two births: An earthly one and a

heavenly one
a. The first from the flesh, while the second
from the Spirit.
b. The first is based on a mortal concept, while
the second is based on an eternal concept.
c. The first is of a man and a woman, while the
second is of God and the Church..

d. The first makes us children of the flesh, while
the second makes us children of the Spirit.
e. The first makes us children of death, while the
second children of the Resurrection.
f. The first makes us children of a curse, while the
second children of blessing and love.
g. The first ties us up by the chains of the original
sin, while the second releases us from the
ties of every sin.. (St. Augustine)
 ‫لم يدخل سمعان الهيكل بالصدفة بل ُم نقادًا بروح هللا وأنت أيضًا إن‬
،‫أردت أن تحمل المسيح بين ذراعيك وتنطلق من الحبس‬
‫ هناك يوجد يسوع داخل‬... ‫جاهد أن يقودك الروح ويدخل بك هيكل هللا‬

Simon the elder did not come to the altar by

coincidence but was rather driven by God’s Spirit.
Likewise, if you wanted to carry Christ between
your arms and be released from your
imprisonment, toil that the Spirit leads you
and enters you into God’s altar, for there resides
Jesus Christ inside the Church in the altar made of
living stones. (Fr. Origanos)

As the breath of God was bestowed on the

first creation, the gift of God; i.e. the Holy
Spirit, was given to the Church so that all

‫جاء مرة الى الكنيسة فسمع مجادلة فى الكالم بين االخوة فرجع الى‬
‫ فسألوه لماذا‬، ‫قاليته ودار حولها ثالث دورات ثم عاد ودخل فيها‬
‫ ان صوت المجادلة كان ال يزال فى اذنى فقلت اخرجه‬: ‫فعلت ؟ فقال‬
. ‫من اذنى قبل ان ادخل قاليتى كى يكون عقلى داخل القالية نقيًا‬

He once came to the church and heard an argument
among the brethren, so he went to his cell but
rotated around it three times before entering it.
When they asked him for the reason, he replied:
“The sound of the argument was still lingering in my
ears and so I wanted to get rid of it before entering
my cell so that when I enter, my mind would stay
preserved pure”. John, the Dwarf.
 ‫المسيح قبل الصعود يعمل للكنيسة المختفية فيه‬
‫ القديس اغسطينوس‬. ‫وبعده تعمل هى له مختفيه فيه‬

Christ, before the Ascension, worked for

the Church hidden inside Him, and
afterwards, the Church works for Him,
hidden inside Him. St. Augustine

Do not answer anyone or speak to anyone,

even if in good words, as long as you are
inside the church. St. Clement

If the bell rang, do not be slow to attending

the church and do not speak there to

Where there is a church, there is God’s

Spirit, and where there is God’s Spirit,
there is a church and all grace. St. Erinaous

People become estranged from Christ if
they turn His house estranged from Him
through impurity.

He who does not take the Church as His

If those who were outside Noah’s ark were

able to survive, then those who are outside
the Church will be able to survive.

Each one ought to turn himself into a

church in this time. Anba Makarios

If you go to Church, do not sit at the door

while people enter when the prayer starts.
Preserve yourself and have God’s fear.

The house of God is a joyful place,

where our heavenly groom awaits us
